I still don't understand why people make these threads. We can't help you. What I enjoy has no influence whatsoever on what you enjoy.

I think you're the one that's not understanding. There isn't a point to this thread. I play War, and so do lots of other people. Lots of people play Assassins. Lots of people play Monks. Lots of people play Elementalists. Etc. The only 'suggestions' we can give is simple 'I play x'. If you gave us something constructive like 'I enjoy doing x and don't like doing y kind of things' then we would be able to give a constructive answer. Given you've been playing for months and haven't settled on a profession yet you probably have an idea on what you do and don't like.

Think GW is not for you as you are asking what other people play ? and re your remark above poster.(looks like your post has been deleted re that remark) People have there own gameplay style as what they enjoy everyones taste differs. This game depends on what you put into it not others So either make a char of every profession and take your best shot |

I think the first thing you need to do is think about what role you want to play in the party. Melee frontline? Support? Ranged physical damage? Spells? Healing? Etc.-- there are many possible roles.
Once you decide what you want to do in the most basic terms, look at which class combinations can fill those roles, and give them a try. Within a couple of levels, you should have have at least some idea of how that profession is going to play, and you can decide whether to continue or try something else. That would be my strategy for choosing. That's about all I can give you, though, because I can't tell you what you like. The class that works best for me is Ranger, and that's what I use for my main, but it's really a matter of personal preference. (I don't always have the same secondary, it depends which build I'm using at the time.) You can only figure out which you prefer by giving it some thought and then trying out some options. |

You will probably get more answers to your liking if you are more polite , I may also suggest taking a bit of time to look through the Q & A Forum where many of these threads have been posted in the past .

I like playing Necromancer as my main it works well and the necro skills have a lot of variety.
Always have plenty of energy for spells as its regenerated when things die. You can raise an army to fight for you or punish enemies when they receive damage or you can drain them with vampiric style skills. Mesmer is probably the one class that plays differently to all the others since you are working to prevent enemies using skills rather than directly damaging them. When uses well its very powerful but you have to think about what enemies your going to face and set up your skillbar to shut them down completely or at least make them pay dearly when they do get off a skill. Out of the prophesies game those are the two I like best. |

It's hard to help someone who isn't giving any info at all about himself, wesleysummers.
It's like barging into a electronics store and asking something to recommend, because you are not enjoying your last purchase, without even telling if you are looking for a tv or a pack of batteries. Help us help you. |

You'll find people which had the same problems as you, and which were given ample help and advice. Why not learn from these threads instead? It's not that any information there is obsolete or unhelpful. As for my advice: I've played this game actively for over 5 years with little breaks in-between (last time I checked I had close to 5000 hours logged in ... I don't have a habit of afk'ing events or sitting in GH, mind you), now I play casual-mode only and I'm not aligned with any guild. I've played every profession in both PvP and PvE, and my two personal favourites are Warrior and Elementalist. Warrior, because he has a versatile weapon choice, correct balance of power & endurance, favours aggressive style of playing and is always in the middle of action. There are so many viable Warrior builds and things you can focus on as a Warrior, both in PvE and PvP, that it never gets boring. Warrior has also a fairly good learning curve, and as you play him more you never lose a hang of being a competent Warrior player. If you have the rush, initiative and boldness to play as a Warrior, there are no regrets here. Warrior, quite possibly, is the most complete and thought-out profession in the whole game. Conversely, I've found Dervish and Assassin unintuitive in playing, in many ways limited (fewer skills, huge dependency on certain skills, incorrect power/endurance ratio) and simply not worth the hassle (there is a fair chance Assassin and Dervish will never be correctly balanced, to actually derive fun from playing them ... as it stands now they're not versatile enough and in many ways inferior to Warrior, without any competitive edge). Elementalist, for my fix of RPG spellcaster. Just like the Warrior, he is very versatile, but his primary role is party support. Whereas his damage-dealing capabilities are easily outclassed by other professions (primarily thanks to large packets of armour-ignoring damage), including infamous Warrior, he is competitive in his ability to deal decent damage in short time span with air/fire magic over a single target or burn clumped monsters to ashes with his fire AoE spells. Many of his skills weaken enemies through conditions and hexes, allowing his allies to finish them off much more easily. The only serious downside of Elementalist, is that his damage output quickly withers versus high-level monsters, which have enough hit points to not be afraid of sudden damage spikes, and enough armour to greatly reduce elemental-based damage (you'll face this problem mainly in Hard Mode). To deal with that, you'll bend yourself more towards support rather than direct damage dealing - Elementalist can be a potent secondary healer of the group, can neutralise/weaken melee/caster threats with air magic (b. surge/flash, thunderclap, shellshock, enervating charge) or boost the defensive abilities of the group through water/earth wards (will help a great deal in caster-based teams, which find themselves too squishy to deal with the pressure). In some cases his damage is still high enough when he combines debilitating air magic with PvE-only skills on enemies already suffering from weakened armour (maybe not a cookie-cutter build, but it holds ground on it's own ... blind/weakness/daze/weakened armour & ability to spike down troublesome casters helps a great deal here). As a honourable mention, I'll briefly summarise the Mesmer ... in PvP his position is unquestioned and there is no other class which offers the same degree of control over the enemy team in key moments. If you are patient enough to wait for good moment to strike, you'll efficiently ruin the day of entire enemy team and possibly secure a victory. It requires good observation of the battle, though ... you'll be constantly occupied with watching over the entire enemy team, analysing the given situation for any possible threats, as it is up to you to neutralise these threats on-the-go. Similarly, you'll be asked to assist your team in getting the kill, by shutting down key enemies at right time. Playing Mesmer in PvP can quickly become very irritating and demanding, because you have to process huge amounts of information, cooperate very tightly with your team and do more things at once that you'd ever believe you'd be able to handle - Mesmer will overwhelm majority of players, let's not kid anyone here. On the PvE side of things, recent buff to skills bolstered an already potent support class with a fair dose of damage, and it helps a lot here. When you play with heroes/henchmen, you'll be able to spike down damaged enemies instantly without dependency on your AI companions, whereas teamed-up with people your input will be much more visible, and likely you'll face a lot less of invectives such as 'Mesmer is useless, it does 0 damage'. Sadly, the way Hard Mode monsters are designed, leaves much to be desired in terms of Mesmer's interrupting skills - unless you're very good at it, you'll probably stick to pro-active hexes instead, such as Backfire, Visions of Regret, Empathy or Panic, in order to quickly obliterate the monsters (you'll find in time that it's pretty useless to try shutting down Hard Mode monsters with their crazy amount of energy and short skill recharge ... on the flip side, monsters will take a lot of damage from your domination hexes by attempting to attack your team). Mesmer primary also synergies very well with Elementalist and Necromancer secondary professions, giving you more than enough options to fill ANY offensive support role in the team (you can pretty much compete with other support classes, as long as you can deal with lower skill attributes or smaller energy score). All of that talk is very nice, but you'll not find what you really like unless you devote a lot of time to play certain classes in different aspects. I suggest to study PvX wiki builds for CM/RA, roll a PvP character and play with different builds for few weeks. If you happen to like mechanics of the class and will be highly proficient at playing it under pressure, it is very probable you've just found the class for you. I didn't mention PvE as valid evaluation on purpose - PvE is laid-back and rarely gives you a good overview of the true class potential. If you want to devote your time to a particular class, making it your main, then you better really like playing it and know how to play it with all of it's features.
